About La Goulette
La Goulette is the port for Tunis, the capital of Tunisia.

The Kasbah fortress in La Goulette was built in 1535 by Charles I of Spain. This fortress was later seized by the Ottoman Turks in 1574.

La Petite Sicile district is where many Sicilian and Maltese immigrants settled from 1868.

Other tourist attractions include the fish market, the Museum of the Arts and Traditions of the Tunisian Judaism "Dar Edhekra" and the Church of St. Augustin and St. Fidèle of La Goulette.

Please observe local customs - women should cover knees and shoulders when visiting religious sites.

There is a variety of bars and restaurants on Franklin Roosevelt Avenue.

La Goulette is set out on the shoreline and is renowned for some of the finest seafood restaurants in the whole of the country.

The seafront boulevard has an artificial beach and is the nearest one to the cruise terminal.

Tunis, the ruins of Ancient Carthage, the pretty village of Sidi Bou Said and the local Souks are all popular trips.

A wide range of souvenirs are on offer from carpets, copper and brassware, to jewellery, leather goods and gourmet treats such as olive oil, spices and nougat.

Local dishes include fresh fish and seafood, cous cous and grilled meat and eggplant salad.
Brik (pronounced breek) is a Tunisian dish consisting of thin pastry around a filling and deep fried.
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock in La Goulette, which is the main port for Tunis. The Goulette Village Harbor is built in the style of an old medina and offers entertainment, dining and duty free shopping.

La Goulette centre is about a half mile away from the docks and Tunis around 8 miles.

Plenty of taxis are available at the Terminal as is bicycle hire.

The National office of the Tunisian Tourism opens an information desk when ships are in port and an information counter, situated in the village yard, supplies visitor and attraction information and leaflets.
