Overview Of The Port Of Tobermory

About Tobermory
Tobermory is the main town on the Isle of Mull in the Scottish Inner Hebrides, part of the United Kingdom. It is located in the north-eastern part of the island, near the northern entrance of the Sound of Mull.

The Explore Mull Visitor Information Centre can help with bookings, local information and maps.

Join a whale and dolphin watching trip or spot eagles, otters and red deer on a wildlife walk.

Mull Museum is small but full of information from early people living in duns and brochs (Iron Age drystone hollow-walled structures), through the times of warring clans and their castles. Exhibits of crofting, farming, fishing and everyday objects show what life was like in Mull in the past.

At the Marine Visitor Centre, there is a huge variety of exhibits and displays demonstrating activities and life in, on and around Tobermory Bay and the Sound of Mull. The large saltwater aquarium is stocked with species from the Bay. Every month they are returned back to the sea and is re-stocked with new and different animals. Other facilities include a touch pool (open April to early October), cinema room and interactive displays.

Take a tour of Tobermory Distillery, learn more about the processes and taste a sample or two.

Duart Castle is the ancestral home of the Clan Maclean and dates back to the 13th century. Visitors may walk through the dungeons and state rooms, ending on the top of the keep (various opening times during the spring/summer).

Aros Park is around a mile away from Tobermory. It offers wonderful views of Tobermory and Calve Island, and over the Sound of Mull to the cragged faces of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. The park is an important key to the cultural heritage of the area and many remnants of its past can still be found hidden in secluded areas around the park.

Children of course, will recognise the brightly coloured buildings from favourite television programme 'Balamory', which was mainly filmed in Tobermory.

There is a range of small shops and stores in town, selling a range of clothing, sporting goods, souvenirs, art and craftwork.

Local restaurants serve a mix of traditional dishes, local favourites such as Mull sausages and Tobermory smoked kippers, fresh fish and seafood and favourite 'pub grub' options such as steak, lamb and curry. For a snack on the go, Tobermory Chip Van, on Tobermory waterfront, serves excellent quality fish & scallops cooked to order.
Cruise Terminal
Small cruise ships can dock in the centre of town. Larger vessels anchor and tender passengers ashore.
