Overview Of The Port Of San Remo

About San Remo
San Remo or Sanremo, is a city on the Mediterranean coast of western Liguria in north-western Italy.

San Remo is a town of art and culture, it's famous casino was built in 1905.

San Remo is also known as the 'Town of Flowers' - its flowers are well-known all over the world and can be seen in its gardens, colourful flowerbeds, and the town parks where tropical plants flourish.

Take one of the medieval or art walks and discover the history of the area. Sights include the Orthodox Russian Church, Borea d’Olmo Palace, built in the late 15th century, San Siro Cathedral (12th century) and in Piazza Eroi, you will find the Torre (tower) della Ciapela, that was once part of the 16th century town walls. Piazza Eroi is in the town centre, close to La Pigna, the medieval part of the town.

Via Corradi is one of the busiest trade streets in town and visitors can find many appetising delicacies here.

The open-air San Remo Marketplace on Piazza Eroi Sanremesi is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.

Shops and boutiques have varied opening times, sometimes closing over lunchtime. In summer, many shops in the city centre open on Sundays and during the evening from 9pm-11:30pm.

Popular sporting activities here include fishing, diving, canoeing, wind surfing and boating as well as golfing, riding and swimming.

There are several pebbly beaches in San Remo. For sand, head to either Bussana, where the water is clear and shallow or Arma di Taggia (around 6km from San Remo) which has shallow water, ideal for families.

Local specialities include 'Sardenara' (pizza like snack), 'Focaccia alle Cipolle' (flatbread with onions), 'Torta Verde' (vegetable pie) and 'Farinata' (thin crepe or pancake).
