Rab Island

Rab is an island in Croatia, located just off the northern Croatian coast in the Adriatic Sea.

Rab town is bound by ancient city walls with four church towers depicting Rab as a ship with four masts - The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. John the Evangelist, St. Andrew the Apostle and St. Justine.

The skull of St. Cristophor, the Patron Saint of Rab, can be found within Rab Cathedral.

A large collection of sacral art is house in the Franciscan Monastery of St. Bernardin, along with two churches (St. Euphemia and St. Bernardin), full of pictures, valuable old books, art, and a coin collection.

The marina/harbour area is a bustling area and a good place to rest, refresh and people-watch.

Rab has more than 100km of hiking trails and cycle paths, allowing exploration at your own pace.

The Kalifront peninsula has many beautiful coves and bays hidden within pine forests.

Rajska plaža (Paradise beach) is a highly rated sandy beach, located in the village of Lopar.

The Forest of Dundo, now a national botanic park, and a rare example of preserved forests of ancient, evergreen oak.

Further inland Komrčar Park has many paths which wind around hills, leading down to the beaches.

Activities in the area include kayaking, canoeing, boat trips and sightseeing tours.

Souvenirs from Rab include the tasty Rab cake, wine, olive oil and perfumes, as well as local crafts and artwork, clothing and potpourri.

The cuisine Rab is typical Mediterranean, with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and fish, prepared with olive oil and light seasoning.

Typical dishes may include light soup made from seasonal vegetables or 'sočivo', Rab's famous lentils, fresh grilled or baked fish with garlic and rosemary, stewed meat in sauces with wine or sherry, as well as gnocchi and pasta. Do try Rab's traditional almond and Maraschino liqueur cake or fritters served with homemade brandy, herbs or honey.

Passengers will be tendered ashore from their ship, to the centre of Rab.
