Puerto Williams

Puerto Williams is a town and naval base, located on Isla Navarino facing the Beagle Channel in Chile, South America. Puerto Williams is also known as the southernmost town in the world.

Remains of Yahgan Indian campsites and fishtraps can be found along the coast east of the city. The Martin Gusinde Anthropological Museum depicts the lives of the Yámana or and Selknam peoples, who were indigenous to Tierra del Fuego.

Outside the entrance of the Naval Headquarters, you can see a monument of the original bow of the ship Yelcho, which rescued Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition in 1916.

Omora Ethnobotanical Park offers many walking trails, picnic spots and sub-antarctic flora.

For the more active visitor, sailing, hiking and kayaking are on offer.

Local dishes include spider crab, salmon and trout as well as more international options such as pizza and pasta. Cazuela is a typical stew-type dish of Chile, commonly consisting of chicken or beef with vegetables.
