Overview Of The Port Of Preveza

About Preveza
Preveza is a town in the region of Epirus, north western Greece, in southern Europe. It is located at the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf and is the capital of the regional unit of Preveza.

Preveza waterfront features a beautiful Venetian clock tower and many pristine buildings. Just inland from the dock is the Agios Andreas Fortress, built in the 18th century. To the south of the fortress is the old town which features narrow medieval alleys and the Seitan Bazaar.

In the south part of the city at the entrance to the Ambracian Gulf, are two fortress/castles -
Other attractions include Pantocrator Castle, St George Castle and the Nicopolis Archaeological Museum.

Built to honour Octavian's (Augustus') victory over Marc Antony and Cleopatra, Nicopolis (City of Victory) was built at the site of the great naval Battle of Actium. The site includes Roman remnants and Byzantine ruins, including a theatre, several walls and gates, basilicas and a gymnasium.

Preveza does not have any popular beaches in the immediate vicinity, but Loutsa beach can be found on the road to Parga. The island of Lefkada, around 30km from the port has beaches on the north and west side. Most popular is Agios Ioannis, which is windy and popular with windsurfers. Katsiki beach offers dramatic scenery, and is located in the southwest corner of the island.

Popular souvenirs include Greek key design jewellery, flavoured honey, ouzo and ceramics. Many stores may observe the afternoon siesta, especially in the hot summer months.

Fresh fish and seafood, homemade pitas, Greek salads and moussaka can all be found on local menus.
