Overview Of The Port Of Opatija

About Opatija
Opatija is a town just southwest of Rijeka on the Adriatic coast of western Croatia, which stands at the crossroads of Central Europe, Southeast Europe, and the Mediterranean.

The oldest building in Opatija is the Church of St. Jakov, located in Opatija Park, which is divided into two separate parts, one near the church (the Park of St. Jakov) and the other near Villa "Angiolina" (Park Angiolina).

The Fountain of Helios and Selena is located across the street from Hotel Imperial near the church of St. Jakov.

The Maiden with the Seagull was erected in 1956 and has become a symbol of Opatija. It is located on the bank of the sea along the popular Lungomare promenade.

Constructed in 1899, Art pavilion "Juraj Matija Sporer" was originally built as a meeting place for the elite but today it is a top art gallery.

The UNESCO Plitvice Lakes are one of the most beautiful and oldest national parks in Croatia and consists of 16 lakes connected via waterfalls.

Take a boat trip and visit the nearby islands of the Kvarner Bay.

For a mix of archaeological and cultural sites, visit the Brijuni National Park, which is a group of fourteen small islands in western Istria.

Further afield, some of the most beautiful cities of the region - Pula, Rovinj and Porec can be explored.

Relax with a day at the beach. Some of the best and most popular include Icici, Lido, Peharovo, Slatina and Tomasevac or try windsurfing, scuba diving or sailing.

The nearby hills of Ucka Mountain are ideal for hiking and biking.

On the main street of Opatija you will find lots of shops and restaurants. Croatian souvenirs to bring back include local wine, liqueurs, olive oil, truffles, jams, chocolates and embroidered goods such as table cloths, clothing etc.

Kvarner Bay supplies the freshest seafood. Taste regional flavours such as truffles, asparagus, chestnuts, cherries or some local wine. Rozata is a flan-like dessert, made with a caramel custard and sometimes served with rum or cherry liqueur such as Maraschino, native to Zadar.
