Overview Of The Port Of Ko Kood
About Ko Kood
Ko Kood (Ko Kut) is a district of Trat Province, eastern Thailand in south east Asia. It consists of a group of islands.
At just over 5 miles across at its widest point, Ko Kood can be explored on foot. However, it is a hilly island with high temperatures, so it’s best explored by bike.
Ko Kood is a resort island, most of the island’s restaurants, bars and attractions can be found in certain areas, alongside tourist accommodation by the beaches.
Most resorts are along the west coast. Bang Bao Bay is known for its calm, warm waters and empty beaches.
Two waterfalls can be visited, Klong Chao Waterfall is the larger of the two, and features a huge pool for swimming. Organised tours usually visit the waterfall in the afternoon. Klong Yai Ki Waterfall is smaller, quieter but also has a pool for swimming.
Near the turn-off to the Klong Chao Waterfall is a mangrove lined estuary. Many nearby places rent kayaks. Very few people visit here so it is clean and quiet.
Ao Salat is a fishing village in the north of the island. It has a few very good seafood restaurants.
Ao Yai is a typical fishermen village in the south-east of the island. inexpensive snorkelling and fishing trips can be arranged with local fishermen.
The beautiful rainforest of Koh Kood is home to many ancient trees, referred to as Makka Tree. A well paved road with signs leads to the trees as well as to The Secret Waterfall. (Note: bring drinks and snacks as the location is quite remote with no facilities or phone signal).
Swimming in the crystal clear waters, snorkelling, kayaking and jungle trekking are all popular activities here. Popular scuba dive sites include Ao Tum, Hin Loi, Ko Reat and Ko Rang National Marine Park.
Souvenirs can mainly be found inside resort areas.
Hotels welcome non-guests in their restaurants and there are a few local places now open serving a range of cuisines including traditional Thai dishes, fresh seafood and Italian.
