Overview Of The Port Of Kas

About Kas
Kaş (pronounced 'Kash') is a small town, and a district of Antalya Province of Turkey, a contiguous transcontinental country, located mostly on Anatolia in Western Asia and on East Thrace in south-eastern Europe.

The Lycian Way is a long distance footpath around part of the coast of ancient Lycia. It is approximately 510km long and stretches from Ölüdeniz, near Fethiye, to Hisarcandir, about 20 kilometres from Antalya.

Apollonia was an ancient city in Lycia, its ruins are located near the small village of Kiliçli. The city is located on a hill and has a walled acropolis with two churches, a theatre, baths and houses. Six pillar tombs and one larger monument are found around the acropolis.

Pinara was a large ancient city at the foot of Mount Cragus (now Mount Babadağ). The remains of several ancient temples can be seen as well as rock tombs including one "royal tomb", an upper and a lower acropolis, a theatre, odeon, agora and a church.

A popular excursion is Kekova island, in the neighbouring district of Demre. There are a number of ancient shipwrecks and cities in the bays here, sunk by earthquakes over the centuries. The sea here is perfectly clear so many details such as staircases and columns can be seen from a boat.

Kaleköy is a village located between Kaş and Kale. It faces the island of Kekova and can be reached by sea or on foot from Üçağız. Kaleköy sits below the ruin of an old crusader castle, which can be accessed by a steep path. Magnificent views can be seen from the top, over the harbour and across to the island.

Saklıkent Canyon is 300m deep and 18km long, one of the deepest in the world. As the level of water rises during winter months, visitors can only enter the canyon in the summertime when 4km is walkable, generally after April, when most of the snow has melted.

If in the area more than a day, take a gullet cruise along the Turkish Riviera. Relax on the beautiful Kaputaş beach, snorkel and swim in the Blue Cave waters and quiet bays.

Other places of interest include the ancient theatre and acropolis in Kaş, the many ruins of ancient cities such as Komba, Nisa and Kyaenai and the murals painted on the wall of town's harbour, apparently inspired by the ancient local culture of Lycians and other civilisations throughout the history in Turkey.

Head to Big Pebble Beach, which is around a 20 minute walk from Kaş.

Souvenirs include carpets, jewellery, ceramics and clothing.

Meze (many small appetiser dishes), kebabs and fresh fish and seafood, along with international options such as Italian, Mexican, steakhouses and Mediterranean cuisine can all be found in local restaurants.
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock near to the centre of town.

Taxis are available and reasonably priced for short distances. However, negotiate a price beforehand if you wish to go longer distances.

A 'Dolmus' (van/minibus) is another way to get around. It means "to fill" so they will depart when full, the advantage of these is that they will drop you off along the way.
