Overview Of The Port Of Jersey
About Jersey
Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands, located in the English Channel. It is a British Crown dependency just off the coast of Normandy, France. St Helier is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey.
There is lots to see in Jersey including the Durrell Wildlife Park, the Jersey War Tunnels, Mont Orgueil Castle, Jersey Museum and Art Gallery and the Maritime Museum.
Elizabeth Castle was built on a rocky islet in the 1590s and was named after Queen Elizabeth 1 by Sir Walter Raleigh whilst he was governor of Jersey. Access to the castle is on foot across the causeway at low tide or by castle bus/boat at other times.
For Formula One fans, there is the Mansell Collection or the Pallot Steam, Motor and General Museum in Trinity.
La Corbière Lighthouse is only open to visitors on certain dates of the year. Explore the dramatic headland and hear tales of tides and shipwrecks, the building of the lighthouse and the men who kept watch for over 100 years.
St Brelade's Bay is Jersey's busiest resort beach with a tiny jetty and parish church at the western end. Other options include Plemont Bay and St Ouen's Bay.
Enjoy Jersey’s relaxed pace and spend an afternoon wandering through St Helier, which combines village-style charm with city-style fashion. The town is filled with continental-style cafés and restaurants where you’ll feel the island’s French influence.
Local produce to buy and sample include Jersey cider, hand-made chocolate, local wine, apple brandy and delicious preserves and jams. Jersey Black Butter is an ideal souvenir, it’s a spiced blend of apples, Jersey cider and spices. Jersey Pottery, handmade jewellery and local artwork also make good gifts.
There is a vast range of restaurants to choose from including French, seafood and Italian to fast food, British, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine.
