Overview Of The Port Of Itea

About Itea
Itea is a town and former municipality in the south eastern part of Phocis, Greece in southern Europe.

There isn't much to see in Itea itself, apart from a few shops, cafes and bars and a beach with little in the way of facilities. Most visitors head to Delphi.

The archaeological site of Delphi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, near to the modern village of the same name. Some of the most important monuments of the site include the Temple of Apollo: dating back to the 4th century BC, Altar of the Chians, the Theatre and the Stadium.

Modern Delphi is a hillside town with tavernas, restaurants, shopping and great views especially of Itea Bay.

The Delphi Archaeological Museum is the best way to see the full range of Delphi's history and is considered one of the finest in Greece.

Hosios Loukas Monastery (around 50 minutes away from Itea) is another UNESCO World Heritage site as it is considered one of the few examples of Middle Byzantine architecture and still features a few of the icons and frescoes from that early period.

Mount Parnassus towers above Delphi and offers scenic views.

Kirra has some good beaches, with a variety of bars and shops.

Street vendors sell traditional Greek crafts, bells and handmade ropes whilst pottery, leather goods and art can also be found in local shops. Shops in Delphi offer gold and silver jewellery and hand-knitted sweaters.

Fresh fish and seafood, such as squid, mussels, octopus and shrimp as well as traditional Greek meze (a variety of small dishes), Greek salads and 'souvlaki' (grilled meat skewers) can be found on local menus.

Cruise Terminal
The quiet, pretty, modern port of Itea is just 2km west of Kirra. Cruises generally anchor and tender passengers ashore here.

Taxis are usually available at the port.

Located near the port itself are the remains of a medieval tower. It is commonly believed that this structure was once a lighthouse.
