About Guayaquil
Guayaquil, the largest and the most populous city in Ecuador, South America, is located on the western bank of the Guayas River, which flows into the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Guayaquil.

Wander down the riverfront promenade - Malecon 2000, good for people-watching, shopping, and enjoying a snack.

The Museo Municipal can be found in the centre of the downtown area, near to numerous other attractions.

Parque Histórico has an interesting recreation of early 20th century Guayaquil, as well as a small zoo and a garden with many types of tropical fruits being grown.

Las Penas is the artistic centre of the city. Many of the old houses have been converted into art galleries.

Parque de las Iguanas, opposite the Metropolitan Cathedral in the main tourist area, features large groups of Iguanas, a collection of turtles and fish, and is a good place to escape the midday sun.

Climb the 444 steps up to Cerro Santa Ana, located near the Malecon 2000. At the top, you are rewarded with a view of the city below as well as a lighthouse, chapel, Naval Museum, shops, cafes and restaurants.

Hacienda La Danesa is a popular day trip from Guayaquil. With it's emphasis on sustainability and local produce, visitors can taste delicious food, take a tour of the teak and cocoa plantations, go horse riding or river tubing, visit the small petting zoo and even milk a cow! There is also the chance to join in with traditional dances and learn more about local culture.

Other activities here include diving and boat trips, scuba diving and bicycle tours.

Mercado Artesanal is the largest artisan market in the city, where vendors sell indigenous crafts, jewellery, and paintings.

Local dishes has influences of Italian, Spanish and East African cuisine. Try 'Arroz con Menestra y Carne Asada' (rice with lentils and grilled beef) or 'Encebollado' (fish stew). Pan de yuca (cheese bread), is a typical snack in Guayaquil.
