Overview Of The Port Of Fujairah

About Fujairah
Fujairah is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. It is the only one whose coastline is solely on the Gulf of Oman.

Fujairah is not a walkable city, due to many main roads, however there are lots of taxis available.

Fujairah Fort was built in 1670 but was badly damaged in the early 20th century. It has since been renovated and restored to its former glory.

The Heritage Village features traditional houses, cooking utensils, farming tools and the Al Yazrah irrigation system, used for irrigating fields.

Fujairah Museum is located south of the Fort, opposite the Ruler's Palace. Displays include artefacts which date back to the early Bronze Age as well as silver and gold items, Iron Age weapons, painted pottery and pre-Islamic silver coins.

Ain Madhab Park is a 50 hectare park and resort for families, with many kinds of trees and flowers.

Al Bidyah Mosque is the oldest in the United Arab Emirates and consists of a prayer hall with a prayer niche or Mihrab, pulpit, arches and openings.

Al Bithnah Fort once stood watch over the strategic route across the Hajar Mountains through Wadi Ham. Built in 1735, it was considered one the most important fortresses in the eastern part of the United Arab Emirates.

Khor Kalba is south of the village of Kalba, set in a beautiful tidal estuary. It is the most northerly mangrove forest in the world and is home to a variety of plant, marine and birdlife not found anywhere else in the UAE. For birdwatchers, the area is especially good during the spring and autumn migrations.

Activities include a sand jeep safari, various watersports and power boat racing.

Khor Fakkan is the nearest beach resort (around 12km away).

Fujairah has plenty of shops selling souvenirs such as perfumes, jewellery and local handicrafts such as pottery.

A wide range of cuisines are available in local restaurants including Italian, Lebanese, Middle Eastern and Indian. Meat, fish and rice are the staple foods of Emirati cuisine. Lamb and mutton are the more favoured meats, followed by goat and beef.
