About Floro
Floro is a town and the administrative centre of Flora Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway, Scandinavia. It is the most western town on the mainland.

Kinn Island is just off Floro and only has 11 permanent residents. The Kinn Church, built around the year 1000, is one of the oldest churches in Norway and a main attraction. The Kinnaklova mountain cleft, stunning sea views and the local wild flowers are other highlights here.

Kystmuseet, the Coastal Museum consists of three buildings and an area of 18 hectares open to the public. Local artefacts are on display such as various images of Floro's development to many types of boats.

The nearest fjord to Floro is Sunnfjord, which offers visitors stunning views.

Kalvag is one of the best preserved fishing villages in western Norway.

Other places of interest include The Black Friday Museum (Luftkampmuseet) in Naustdal and Sunnfjord Geo Center, where visitors can experience the region’s past and present through geology.

During WWII, German forces used Floro as a base and traces of tunnels, bunkers and guns can still be seen today.

Day trips include a Lighthouse Safari, taking in three of the county’s most westerly lighthouses, walking tours of the area and a visit to Værlandet and Bulandet, the westernmost inhabited island communities in Norway, with their unique landscapes of crags combined with marshland and lakes.

Ocean and lake fishing are very popular pastimes in Floro and the surrounding area.

The centre of Floro is busy and charming and you will find small shops and art galleries with unique hand-made items. Floro also has a shopping centre with a good variety of shops. One of the best local beer breweries in Norway can be found in Floro.

Norway's culinary treats include salmon (fresh and cured), herring (pickled or marinated), trout, codfish and other seafood balanced by cheeses, dairy products and breads.

Traditional Norwegian dishes include 'lutefisk' (stockfish), 'smalahove' (sheep's head), 'raspeball' (potato dumpling) and 'fårikål' (casserole of mutton with bone, cabbage and black pepper).
