About Faaborg
Faaborg is an old port town located on Faaborg Fjord on the island of Funen in Denmark, northern Europe.
Den Gamle Gaard is in a timber-framed house which dates back to around 1725. The rooms inside are arranged to show how a wealthy merchant lived in the early 19th century.
Faaborg Arrest is a small museum occupying the former prison cells in the town hall and features a rogues’ gallery of 19th century criminals.
Faaborg Museum can be found in a Nordic neoclassical building and contains a decent collection of Funen artwork.
Horne Round Church and Mausoleum dates back to the 15th century and is the only round church of Funen.
Svanninge Bjerge is a beautiful nature area not far from Faaborg, with marked walking trails and lovely views over the surrounding countryside.
For 460 years, Egeskov has stood in its beautiful location in the landscape of Southern Funen. Egeskov is famous for being the best preserved moat castle in Europe.
Lyø is situated 7km south west of Faaborg. In the middle of the island you will find Lyø city and the village church with the round churchyard. The narrow alleys wind through beautiful, old half-timbered houses and village ponds. The city houses are mainly from the 18th century and some of them are even older. The island has nice beaches and fishing areas. The island in rich in bird and animal life and many aquatic and wading birds come here to breed.
Hire a bike and explore the varied landscape and picturesque villages of Funen.
Two bathing jetties are available in the harbour, only a few 100 metres from the centre of Faaborg.
For fun and adventure, families can visit the Holstenshuus climbing park.
Other activities on offer here include horse riding, kayaking, golf and tennis.
Faaborg's pedestrian street starts at the Town Hall square. This is where you will find shops, cafes and restaurants. Saturday mornings is market day on the main square. Good buys include local food and drink, handmade chocolates, arts and crafts and antiques.
Try some famous Danish sausages or local smoked fish products. Fresh fish and seafood are the star attraction here, especially herrings, plaice and shrimps and traditional Danish dishes such as 'fiske filet' or 'stjerneskud' ('shooting star' open sandwich, usually with fish) can usually be found on restaurant menus.

Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships, depending on their size can either anchor east of Bjørnø, which is situated only 3.5km south of Faaborg or dock alongside the ferry harbour, right in the centre of town. It is only a couple minutes walk into all the action from here.
The harbour itself, with the Old Harbour, marina and ferries to the islands in the archipelago, is a lively and popular place to stroll.
