Bear Island (aka Bjørnøya) is the southernmost island of the Norwegian Svalbard archipelago. The island is located in the western part of the Barents Sea, approximately halfway between Spitsbergen and the North Cape.
The island is mainly uninhabited by humans, except for personnel working at the meteorological station.
Bear Island is home to puffins, seabirds, seals and arctic foxes as well as visiting polar bears. The surrounding waters are a natural reserve.
