About Astoria
Astoria is the seat of Clatsop County, Oregon in the United States of America. It is situated near the mouth of the Columbia River.
The Astoria Column is a tower overlooking the mouth of the Columbia River. It was built in 1926, and stands 38m tall, with a 164-step spiral staircase leading up to an observation deck.
Columbia River Maritime Museum, located on the waterfront, collects and exhibits maritime artefacts from the Columbia River and the Pacific Northwest.
Fort Stevens was an American military installation that guarded the mouth of the Columbia River, built near the end of the American Civil War. Fort Stevens is preserved within Fort Stevens State Park. The 3,700 acre park includes swimming at Coffenbury Lake, trails, and a military history museum. The seas surrounding Clatsop Spit, also part of the park, were dangerous and it is estimated that over 2,000 shipwrecks have occurred.
The Astoria Trolley runs along the riverside, with volunteers giving some history about the local area.
City Hall, built in 1904, now home to the Clatsop County Historical Society’s Heritage Museum, featuring the history of Clatsop County through temporary and permanent exhibits.
Tapiola Park and Astoria Aquatic Center are both popular for families with children.
The Astoria River Trail stretches the entire length of the city's waterfront, connecting restaurants, museums and other attractions. It passes under the Astoria-Megler Bridge, the largest truss bridge in the world.
Other places of interest include the Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks, Fort Canby State Park, Flavel House Museum and the Maritime Memorial.
Astoria has a good range of shopping opportunities from clothing retailers and specialist stores, to gift shops and galleries.

A shuttle service to downtown Astoria is available which departs every 15 minutes when ships are in port. An all-day pass provides unlimited on/off journeys, and even covers rides on Astoria's historic trolley which operates on the rail line along the Columbia River.
Local bands play on the cruise pier as each ship docks, and throughout the day in port.
The “Never on a Sunday Market” is a festive, open-air market with up to 40 art, craft and jewellery booths manned by the artists and craftsmen themselves.
