About Antsiranana
Antsiranana is a city at the northern tip of Madagascar, an island country in the Indian Ocean.
Antsiranana Bay (formerly known as Diego-Suarez Bay), is a large natural bay along the northeast coast, which is protected by a narrow inlet that provides shelter from strong Indian Ocean winds.

The Amber Mountain National Park is around 35km from the port, filled with lakes and waterfalls.

Head to the Montagne des Francais, which is popular with rock climbers and hikers wishing to explore the scenic beauty of the surrounding area.

Ankarana Special Reserve is around 108km south of Antsiranana. It is known for its limestone karst pinnacles called 'tsingy' along with its extensive cave system and network of underground rivers.
Visitors may encounter many species of lemur, chameleons and leaf-tailed Uroplatus geckos here.

The Tsingy Rouge (Red Tsingy) is a stone formation formed by erosion of the Irodo River, located approximately 60km south of Antsiranana, near the town of Sadjoavato.

There are no beaches in Antsiranana, however Ramena Beach lies about 18km away and is a good place to relax.

Explore the city, which is full of French colonial architecture. Shop at the Old Covered Market or local craft shops, popular souvenirs include zebu horns and sea turtle shells.

Choose from a variety of seafood dishes, local and French cuisine. Contemporary cuisine typically consists of rice served with an accompaniment. Garlic, onions, ginger, tomatoes, mild curry, and salt are the most common ingredients used to flavour dishes, along with coconut milk, vanilla, cloves and turmeric.
