Overview Of The Port Of Anegada

About Anegada
Anegada is the northernmost of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), a group of islands which form part of the archipelago of the Virgin Islands. Anegada is the second largest of the British Virgin Islands, but the most sparsely populated, most inhabitants live in the only village, The Settlement where there are a scattering of local restaurants and small stores.

The island is surrounded by reefs and boasts miles of sandy beaches. Many visitors come here to relax. For the more adventurous, scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, windsurfing and sailing are on offer.

Anegada is known for large salt ponds, covering much of the west end of the island, unique fauna can be found here.

Caribbean flamingos, once in abundance, are being re-introduced on the island and a limited numbers of tourists can visit the flamingo areas.

Feral cattle, donkeys, goats and sheep can be found roaming all areas of the island.

Explore the nature trail at Bones Bight where you may catch a glimpse of the rare rock iguana or the many exotic birds at Nutmeg Point.

Fungi (pronounced foon-gee) is a main staple of the traditional Virgin Islands diet, cornmeal is boiled along with okra and sometimes served with boiled fish or saltfish.

Other popular dishes and snacks include 'callaloo' (thick stew/soup), 'roti' (curried vegetables and meat wrapped in a paper-thin dough), 'pate' (fried dough filled with various meats) and 'johnnycake', another pastry made with fried dough.
