Port Stanley

Stanley (aka Port Stanley) is the capital of the Falkland Islands and located on the island of East Falkland in the South Atlantic.

Britannia House Museum has historic artefacts from the maritime history of the region.

Christchurch Cathedral's whalebone arch welcomes visitors to the southernmost cathedral in the world.

The Falklands are home to Gentoo penguins, and also a few colonies which include King and Magellanic penguins. Sightseeing tours can be purchased at the Visitor's Centre.

The many species of bird which call the Falkland Islands home can be seen on the half day Cape Pembroke Birding Walk. Information and maps are available at the Visitor's Centre.

Sea Trout Fishing trips are available if the weather co-operates.

Dining options here include British pub style meals (shepherd's pie/lamb/fish), seafood options and international cuisine.

Cruise ships anchor and tender passengers ashore to the jetty in the centre of town, just near to the Visitor's Centre.

The Visitor's Centre has telephones, Internet stations, maps, information and access to island tours. There are several shops near to the dock and a pub. Taxis are also available from here.

Stanley and nearby attractions are all within a few blocks of each other and easily walkable.

Note: the seas can be rough here, and wheelchair-bound visitors may have problems getting off the ship and back on.
