Trapani

Trapani is the capital of the Province of Trapani, on the west coast of Sicily in Italy.

The hilltop walled town of Erice is a big attraction here, a cable car runs in the summer or it is accessible by taxi or bus.

There are many churches in Trapani and a visit to Count Agostino Pepoli gives an understanding of Sicily's history and culture.

Segesta is a ruined ancient Greek town.

Souvenirs include leatherwork, pottery, jewellery and rugs.

Lido San Giuliano is the longest beach in Trapani centre. Windsurfing, surfing and scuba diving are all are popular here.

Local dishes include caponata Gatò di patate, spaghetti with sea urchin and cous cous al pesce or try the famous Marsala dessert wine.

Most ships dock in the Old Town, behind the port, however larger vessels may have to anchor and tender passengers ashore.
