Overview Of The Port Of Tangier
About Tangier
Tangier is a city in northern Morocco, the most westerly of the North African countries.
The Mendoubia Park situated north of Grand Socco Square has a giant banyan and a dragon tree, alleged to be 800 years old.
Place de France is the heart of the modern town, here you will have good view of the medina and the port and bay of Tangier from Faro Square with its cannons.
The Kasbah is the highest point in the city, located within the medina. The Dar el-Makhzem, formerly the Sultan’s palace, is now the Kasbah Museums - Museum of Moroccan Art and the Museum of Antiquities.
At the Souk in Medina, there is a wide range of souvenirs. Brass, leather items, carpets and colourful slippers are all popular buys.
Further afield, around 14km away are the Caves of Hercules.
The nearest beach is located next to the harbour area.
Traditional cuisine includes cous cous, tajines, 'pastilla' (meat pie) and 'harira' (soup). The mint tea is very refreshing.
