About Talcahuano
Talcahuano is a port city in the Biobío Region of Chile, South America.

In February 2010 Talcahuano was devastated by the 8.8 earthquake and subsequent tsunami. These back-to-back disasters left 80% of it's residents homeless and the city government estimates it will take around 10 years to recover.

Stroll down the seaside promenade, Ventana al Mar.

The Huáscar was a 19th century small armoured turret ship. It remains one of the few surviving ships of this type and is berthed in the Port of Talcahuano, now a floating museum and memorial ship.

The Terminal Artisan Fishing shows visitors the renovated La Poza area of ​​Talcahuano and the importance of the fishing industry.

Take a boat trip around the bay of Concepcion.

Caleta Tumbes is a beautiful fishing village, around 15 minutes from Talcahuano port. Whilst there, try the famous seafood empanadas or cheese shells.

The beaches of Ramuntcho and Rocoto are only a few kilometres away.

For shopping, head to the Mall Plaza del Trebol Shopping Center.

Chilean cuisine is a combination of traditional Spanish cuisine, local native culture and ingredients, as well as influences from Germany, Italy and France. Fresh fish and seafood as well as a wide range of meat and poultry dishes can be found on local menus.
