Svolvaer

Svolvær is the administrative centre of Vågan Municipality in Nordland County, Norway, Scandinavia. It is located on the island of Austvågøya in the Lofoten archipelago.

Svolvaer is the starting point for exploring the Lofoten islands.

Magic Ice is the world`s first ice gallery and bar, see ice sculptures representing different aspects of Arctic life.

Gallery Lofotens House is in the fishing village of Henningsvær and features paintings by North Norwegian artists past and present and Magic Island Kingdom, a portrait of Lofoten through the years.

Lofoten Golf Links is a 9 hole course next to a white sand beach. In the summer, it is possible to play 24 hours a day and enjoy stunning views of the Midnight Sun. Horse riding trips are available on a nearby beach.

Lofoten Viking Museum is a living museum housed in a reconstruction of the biggest Viking longhouse ever found.

Vågan Church (aka Lofoten Cathedral) is a parish church located in the village of Kabelvåg. Seating about 1200 people, this church is the largest wooden building in Northern Norway (north of Trondheim). Five or six different churches have been built on the same area of today's church over the last 900 years.

Other attractions in Kabelvåg include the Lofoten Museum, Lofoten Aquarium, and Espolin Gallery.

Activities popular here include hiking, cycling, mountain-climbing, fishing and kayaking.

Sea Eagle safaris, fishing trips and boat tours can also be arranged.

As well as Svolvaer offering a variety of excellent seafood, Lofoten is also famous for its award-winning lamb and Barents cod (Skrei).

Depending on ship size, vessels can either dock at pier or anchor and tender passengers ashore.

Toilets, taxis, car hire and public transport are available nearby.

The centre of town is an easy 140m walk away.
