Suva

Suva is the capital of Fiji. It is located on the southeast coast of the island of Viti Levu, in the South Pacific.

Fiji Museum houses artefacts from Fiji's history including relics from HMS Bounty.

Colo-I-Suva Forest Park offers hiking trails, swimming, and bird watching around a sub tropical rainforest, with a number of tracks leading to a series of waterfalls. (Note: the weather in Suva is unpredictable, it often rains in this area so the tracks can get muddy and slippery).

There are some modern malls on Thomson Street and local shops on Marks and Cumming streets. Popular buys include jewellery, local handicrafts and artwork. Buy tropical fruits at the central market.

Diving and snorkelling are popular activities here.

Popular local dishes include 'kokodo/kokoda' (raw Mahi-mahi fish with thick coconut cream with onions, lemon/lime juice, salt and chilies dressing) and 'palusami' (corned beef or fish baked with coconut milk in taro leaves).

Cruise ships dock at the Port of Suva, beside the bus terminal. There is also a large central market beside the port mainly selling food and a handicraft market nearby too.

Suva has an efficient local bus system which can take you around the island.

Car hire and taxis are also available.
