About Split
Split is a city on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea in Croatia, in central/south east Europe.
Visit the 1,700 year old Diocletian's Palace or walk the city's famous promenade, Riva beside the sea, where outdoor cafes line the inside edge of the walkway.
Walk out through the west gate of the palace and you'll come to the Narodni Trg, or "People's square," the old city's main square.
At the east end of Diocletian's Palace is Green Market, a big, lively open air market selling fresh fruit/vegetables, clothing and souvenirs.
Coral jewellery and marble like Dalmatian white limestone are good buys as well as dolls dressed in native folk costumes.
The beach at Bacvice Bay, in a sandy cove, is 10 minutes walk from the dock area.
Local dishes include 'meješano meso' or 'ražnjići' (skewers), 'zagrebački odrezak' (veal steaks stuffed with ham and cheese and grilled with breadcrumbs) and Šnitzle (breaded veal or chicken cutlets).
