Overview Of The Port Of Sorrento
About Sorrento
Sorrento is a small town in Campania, southern Italy. The town overlooks the Bay of Naples.
The walk from the marina to town takes about 20 minutes and is mostly uphill, involving some 200 steps. Buses are available from the tender pier to the town centre.
Piazza Tasso is Sorrento's main square. The streets are lined with shops selling everything from jewellery to inlaid wood products, limoncello, leather goods, Murano glass, ceramics and souvenirs.
Chiesa di San Francesco (the Cloister of St. Francis) dates from the 14th century and offers pretty archways and a lovely garden. The nearby Villa Comunale gardens are a pleasant setting and offer panoramic views of the Bay of Naples.
The Museo Correale di Terranova is located in a former palace that now houses ancient works of art and antiques.
Further afield, many visitors head for Pompeii, the island of Capri and Naples.
Pasta, pizza and seafood dishes are all widely available on menus.
