Samsun

Samsun is a city on the north coast of Turkey. It is the provincial capital of Samsun Province and a major Black Sea port.

Local attractions include the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum, the Atatürk Museum, Gazi Museum and the many pleasant parks and promenades along the shores of this spread-out city.

Mosques such as Büyük Camii, Kurşunlu and Haci Hatun Mosque as well as the Church of Mater Dolorosa are some of the sites representative of the diverse religious structures of the city, surrounded by many tombs, Turkish baths, spas and monuments and spas to explore.

The historical Tashan Bazaar and Fazil Ahmed Pasha Bazaar, built in the 17th century, are comprised of traditional shops where you can buy souvenirs and local handmade items.

Alaçam Geyikkoşan Beach, Bafra Coast, Tekkeköy Yakakent and Çam Lake are some of the beaches here to visit.

Activities here include paragliding, numerous watersports as well as lush green valleys for trekkers to explore.

Samsun is well-known for its local cuisine, main ingredients include corn, cabbage and beans as well as meat and pastry. 'Lahana Çorbasi' (cabbage soup), 'kaz yufkası' (pastry with goose meat), 'mercimekli bulgur pilavı' (bulgur pilaf with lentils) and 'hamsi ekmek' (anchovy bread) are some of the local dishes to try.

The Port of Samsun is located within walking distance of the town centre.

Cumhuriyet Meydani (Square of the Republic), is near to the port.
