Propriano

Propriano is a commune in the Corse-du-Sud department of France on the island of Corsica, located on the Valinco Gulf.

Most visitors head to the beaches in the area, the nearest to the port are plage de Lido (1km west) and plage de Baracci (1km north). Baracci beach is a further 3km away.

The surrounding forest is also an attraction, as is the Baracci thermal station where you can bathe in the thermal waters.

There is a wide variety of watersports available including diving, windsurfing, catamaran, canoeing and boat trips.

Shopping can be found near the port and in the town's main street - rue du du Général-de-Gaulle. Souvenirs include local pottery, handmade shepherd's knives and jewellery.

The nearby village of Sartène has a history dating back to medieval times and granite buildings from the early 16th century still line some of the streets. The town is centred on the Place de la Liberation, at the edge of which is the church of Sainte Marie. The town has good views across the valley.

Popular dishes include 'civet de sanglier' (Wild boar casserole), 'veau aux olives' (Veal with olives) and 'agneau Corse' (Corsican lamb), meat dishes may be served with pasta or polenta. Also look out for red mullet (rouget), sea bream (loup de mer), crayfish (langoustine) and oysters (huitres).

Most cruise ships are able to dock at the port, near to shops and cafes. Larger ships may need to anchor and tender passengers ashore. The marina has a couple of beaches nearby.

The port is a 10 minute walk from where the buses stop at the top of rue du Général-de-Gaulle, the town's main street.
