Montego Bay

Jamaica is an island in the western Caribbean, Montego Bay is on the northern coast.

Montego Bay offers numerous shopping opportunities. Half Moon Shopping Village is an upscale affair, whilst the main tourist hub is on Gloucester Avenue (also known as the Hip Strip). Here you will find all the usual tourist shops, cafes and the famous Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville restaurant. For local craft and art wood carvings, head to one of two craft markets at either Old Fort or Harbour Street.

Note: you may find that vendors are very push, persistent and sometimes aggressive so take care. Do not wander alone outside tourist areas. If in doubt, take a pre-booked cruise excursion.

There are 5 Championship golf courses in Montego Bay to choose from.

For nature lovers, head to Dolphin Cove or Rockland's Bird Feeding Station and Sanctuary in Anchovy (20 minutes away by taxi).

Rose Hall Great House is a very popular excursion with visitors.

YS Falls are a quieter alternative to the busier Dunn's River Falls in Ochos Rios.

Doctor's Cave Beach and Cornwall Beach are both not far from the 'Hip Strip' (entrance fees may apply).

Jamaica is know for it's jerk chicken and pork dishes. The national dish is salt fish (cod). Other popular choices include curry goat, friend dumplings and 'ackee' (a fruit usually eaten with cod).

The Cruise Terminal in Montego Bay is at Freeport. There is a shopping centre, tourist information stand, refreshments and taxis/shuttles to take you into town (around 3 miles away).
