About Margarita Island
Margarita Island (Isla de Margarita) is the largest island in the Venezuelan state of Nueva Esparta, located in the Caribbean Sea.
Attractions here include the Basilica Virgen del Valle, Parque El Agua (Water Park), La Restinga National Park, Fortin de la Galera and the lighthouse - Faro de la Puntilla.
In the town of Boca del Rio, you will find the Museo Marino de Margarita.
Isla Margarita is tax free and there are ample opportunities for shopping. Sambil Margarita shopping mall is located in Pampatar and Porlamar offers many different shops including the Jumbo Mall.
Popular beaches include playa El Agua in the north of the island, Playa Guacuco in the east and the windsurfing beach at El Yaque.
Fresh fish and seafood are popular here, especially their famous lobster and oysters.
