About Maputo
Maputo is the capital and largest city of Mozambique, in the Indian Ocean.
Places of interest include the Fort of Maputo, the inland lakes at Bilene and Xai-Xai beach which offer fishing, watersports and relaxation and the bustling central market, selling everything from food, household items and traditional handicrafts.
The Museum of the Revolution tells the story of the long struggle against Portuguese colonialism, with displays of photographs, maps and weapons.
Inhaca Island, about 40km off the coast is a popular spot with great beaches and some of the area’s best coral reefs. There is also the marine biology museum and an historic lighthouse here. The island is popular with snorkelers and divers. The Wall is a 20m cliff, which hides many caves and ledges.
Ponta d’Ouro, around 120km south of Maputo, attracts surfers because of it's perfect waves. Visitors can also swim with dolphins here.
Try the famous peri peri prawns or local favourite drink of Tipo Tinto Rum.
