Laerdal

Lærdal is a municipality in the south-western part of Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway in Scandinavia. It is part of the traditional district of Sogn.

Laerdal and the surrounding areas are ideal for activities such as climbing, hiking, cycling, glacier trekking, boat trips and fishing.

Natural attractions include the Sognefjord, which is the largest fjord in Norway, the Jostedal glacier (Jostedalsbreen), the largest glacier in continental Europe and Vettisfossen waterfall, the highest in Norway and located in Årdal.

Borgund Stave Church in Borgund, was built some time between 1180 and 1250 AD. It has had several restorations and additions but is the best preserved of Norway's 28 extant stave churches.

The Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre is located on the banks of the Lærdal river and gives visitors an insight into the industry and lives of Salmon through exhibitions, film, observation pool and demonstrations (various opening times May-Sept).

Local dishes from the area include salmon, cod and meatballs although pasta, pizza, lamb and salads can also be found.
