About Kristiansand
Kristiansand is a city, municipality and the county capital of Vest-Agder county in Southern Norway, in the North Atlantic Ocean.
Vest Agder Open Air Museum is one of Norway’s largest museums featuring the culture and history of Kristiansand and the county of Vest-Agder.
Kristiansand Zoo, around 13km from the port, is the largest zoo in Scandinavia.
At the Cannon Museum, see the world’s second largest cannon to ever be mounted on land. Situated in beautiful surroundings by the coast, a visit gives an insight into the way the cannons were in days gone by.
Gimle Estate & Gardens was built around 1800. There are collections of paintings, period furniture and china which reflect a family home through five generations.
The Arkivet Foundation is based in a building that served as a Gestapo regional headquarters during WWII, with the basement functioning as a detention and interrogation centre. The prison cells and torture chambers from 1942-45 have been reconstructed and illustrate the events that took place in the basement.
Christiansholm Fortress dates back to 1672 and is a short walk from the cruise pier. There are 8 bronze cannons outside the fortress and a great view over the marina and the Atlantic Ocean.
The Fish Market (“Fiskebrygga”) is a very popular place for locals as well as tourists.
The Mineral Park houses Europe’s finest private collection of stones and minerals. More than 1200 of them are exhibited inside the mountain in tunnels specially made for the exhibition.
Further afield lies Lindesnes Lighthouse on the southernmost tip of mainland Norway. It is the oldest lighthouse station in Norway, first lit in 1655.

Traditional dishes to try include 'fenalår' (cured and seasoned sheep's meat), 'pinnekjøtt' (lamb's ribs) and 'multekrem' (cloudberries and whipped cream dessert).
