About Kos
Kos or Cos, is a Greek island in the south Sporades group of the Dodecanese, in the Aegean Sea. It is only 4km from the coast of Bodrum, Turkey.
Local attractions include Nerantzia Castle (Castle of the Knights of St. John), Asklepieion (ancient hospital/spa), Odeon (theatre), Agora (marketplace), Archaeological Museum and Antimachia Castle.
The village of Zia in the hills of Kos is the most popular tourist stop inland and features shops that sell the local crafts.
The popular beaches of Lambi, Tigaki and Marmari are all between 3½ and 16km away.
Kos is an excellent island for cycling, there are many paths running between the beach areas of Psalidi and Lambi and Kos Town. Bicycles are available for hire at many locations throughout Kos.
There are some nice jewellery shops, hand painted icons and local artwork to buy on the island.
Local food to try include shrimp salad and fried squids, Xinomyzithra (local sour cheese), vegetables filled with rice and Loukoumades (sweet fried snack).
