Guam

Guam is the largest and southernmost island of the Mariana Islands, in the western Pacific Ocean. The capital is called Hagåtña.

The Asan Overlook in Apra Harbour, is home to carved bronzed monuments dedicated to the American soldiers and Chamorro civilians and is a World War II memorial site.

In Agana, explore the history of Guam at the Guam Museum and at the Guam Pacific War Museum see excellent displays of WWII American and Japanese relics including uniforms, weapons, equipment, photos and vehicles.

Two Lover's Point in Tumon is a cliffside lookout point, offering spectacular views of Tumon Bay and the ocean.

Gef Pa'go Cultural Village gives visitors insight about the way native Chamorros lived in the early 1900s.

Hike up Mount Lamlam for some fantasic views from the highest point on Guam. Guided tours are available.

Scuba diving and fishing trips can be organised at the harbour.

Golf is available at the Onward Mangilao Golf Club.

Popular beaches include Tumon and Ypao Beach Park in Tumon and Ritidian Point in Agana.

The Micronesia Mall in Dededo, DFS Galleria in Tamuning and Chamorro village offer visitors plenty of shopping options. The lively Wednesday Night Market in the village features dancers, delicious local food and plenty of handicrafts and souvenirs.

Kelaguen is a Chamorro dish of chicken, raw shrimp, fish or beef, marinated in lemon juice, fresh coconut, onions, salt and hot red chili peppers. It is served cold or at room temperature over rice or wrapped in a warm corn, flour tortilla or the Chamorro version 'titiyas' with finadene on the side.

The commercial port is located at the northern end of the Apra Harbour. The capital, Hagåtña is around 3km away.

Hiring a car or taxi is the safest way to explore the island.
