Flaam

Flåm (or Flaam) is a village located in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway, in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Take a journey on the Flåm Railway to see some of the wildest and most striking examples of Norwegian mountain landscapes.

Visit Flåm Railway Museum & Documentation Centre located next to the railway station in Flåm.

Go on a fjord boat safari to experience and explore the Aurlandsfjord and the UNESCO protected Nærøyfjord, both branches of the Sognefjord.

Kayaking and hiking and biking tours in the nearby mountains are also an option.

Otternes Bygdetun has 27 different buildings dating back to the 1600's and is a "living museum", There are also some fabulous view towards Flåm and the Aurlandsfjord.

In nearby Undredal you can sample the famous local brown and white goat cheese or visit Undredal Stave Church which dates back to 1147. It is the smallest stave church in Norway.

There are many souvenir shops in Flam, popular gifts include knitted sweaters, pewter beer mugs, glass, crystal and trolls.

Traditional dishes include smoked salmon, 'kjøttkaker' (meatcakes), 'kjøttboller' (meatballs) and 'svinekoteletter' (pork chops).

Most cruise ships dock at the port where it's a short walk to most attractions. Across from the pier, the old Flam Station building houses the Railway Museum and tourist office. Nearby is Aegir Brewery, which produces five microbrews and souvenir shops are a short walk away.

Occasionally ships may choose to anchor and tender passengers ashore.
