Falmouth (Jamaica)

Falmouth, located on the north coast, is the chief town and capital of the parish of Trelawny, Jamaica in the western Caribbean.

Dunn's River Falls is located around an hour away by taxi.

Mystic Mountain is a rainforest adventure park that's great for kids and adults alike.

Montego Bay's Hip Strip - enjoy a stroll along the Hip Strip (also known as Gloucester Avenue), past bars and shops in Montego Bay's most bustling tourist district, which fronts the beach.

Good Hope Great House: This immaculately preserved home is on a former sugar plantation and dates back to the 1700's.

Anglican Parish Church - built in 1795, this is the oldest public building in Falmouth.

Raft down the Martha Brae River on a 30 foot long bamboo raft.

Tour the great houses near Montego Bay, including Rose Hall Great House, Greenwood Great House, Bellefield Great House and Hampden Great House, home to a rum distillery and factory tour.

There are a few beautiful beaches within a short taxi ride of the Falmouth port, but they have not yet been developed for tourism. Beaches with full amenities are available in Montego Bay.

To sample authentic Jamaican food, Falmouth has a number of restaurants options. The jerked style of cooking is a Jamaican staple where meats are marinated with dry or wet rubs made of a concoction of spices.

The Historic Falmouth Port's pier is located within Oyster Bay on Jamaica's north coast. Passengers walk directly off the ship into the purpose built port complex.

The port complex houses shops like Diamonds International and Dufry, as well as Jamaican craft vendors, restaurants and transport stops. Snack and souvenir vendors are set up on the port's open spaces.

From here, Falmouth is only a 3-4 minute walk away.

Note: vendors do tend to hassle visitors to buy their goods, a firm "no thank you" should suffice. There is also a police presence in Falmouth.
