Corinto

Corinto is a town on the northwest Pacific coast in the province of Chinandega, Nicaragua, Central America.

Puerto Corinto does have a few shops and churches, otherwise most visitors head off to Leon or Managua, the capital of Nicaragua.

Attractions in Leon include Cerro Negro Volcano, Basilica Catedral de la Asuncion, Museo de Arte Fundacion Ortiz-Gurdian and Las Peñitas, a fishing village and tourist beach community. Next to Las Peñitas is the Nature Reserve of Isla Juan Vanado popular for turtle migrations.

In Managua, visit Laguna de Apoyo Nature Reserve, The National Palace of Culture or Antigua Catedral de Managua.

Nearby Playa Paso Caballo beach is popular but the waters here are dangerous for swimming and there are no lifeguards present.

Vendors sell handmade clothing, locally grown produce and handcrafted souvenirs at the market stalls downtown. Hammocks are a speciality buy here.

Fresh seafood and fish can be found in abundance on menus.

The cruise ship dock is within walking distance to town, however there is not much to see for tourists and most head off on an organised tour at this port of call.

Pedicabs are generally available at the dock.
