About Cooktown
Cooktown is a small town located in North Queensland, Australia. It was named after Captain James Cook, who landed there in 1770 when his ship needed repairs.

Places of interest include Cook’s Lookout, the James Cook Museum and Grassy Hill Lookout, which has spectacular 360 degree views. There is also a 1.5km walking trail which leads from the summit down to the beach at Cherry Tree Bay.

Charlotte Street and Bicentennial Park feature some interesting monuments, notably the famous Captain Cook statue.

Take a trip into the bush and learn about the history and art of the Aboriginal people, tours are conducted by an Aboriginal Elder.

Other popular stops is the Cooktown History Centre and Nature’s Powerhouse Visitor Centre, located in the Botanic Gardens. You can also browse for gifts in their shop.

Dining options include fresh fish and seafood, local specialities and international favourites such as Italian and fast food.
