About Kuantan
Kuantan is the state capital of Pahang, the 3rd largest state in Malaysia. It is located near the mouth of the Kuantan River facing the South China Sea.
There isn't a lot for tourists in Kuantan itself, the State's mosque with it's stained glass windows and nearby beaches draw visitors in.
Further afield:
Bukit Gambang Waterpark Resort is the only waterpark in Pahang and a good choice for families with children.
Sungai Lembing Mines and Museum are around 40km away. The nearby town still retains many of its former colonial era buildings.
Teluk Chempedakis is around 8km away from Kuantan. Here there are fast food places, local restaurants selling Malaysian, Thai and Indian food, lots of souvenir shops and a market. There is a lovely beach with watersports.
The Gua Carah caves at Pancing are around 24km away and feature an ancient Buddha. Nearby you can also find the Pandan waterfalls.
Local dishes include Tom Yam Soup, grilled fish and seafood. Traditional Malaysian and Indian dishes are also available in restaurants.
