Overview Of The Port Of Willis Island

About Willis Island
Willis Island is located beyond the Great Barrier Reef, in the Coral Sea, around 450km east of Cairns, Queensland in Australia.

Willis Island is only small – 500m long by 150m wide, the highest point being only 10m above sea level. The meteorological station was established in 1921, and usually is home to 3 or 4 people.

The island is an important nesting area for birds and turtles (Greenback and Loggerhead). Wedge-tailed shearwaters, sooty terns, wood sandpipers and sacred kingfishers have all been spotted.

Island hopping, exploring the Great Barrier Reef and fishing are popular visitor attractions.

Due to its location so far out to sea, the island has constant 20kph winds.
Cruise Terminal
There is no natural harbour, and all cruise vessels have to anchor offshore and tender passengers onto the island.
