About Valletta
Valletta is the capital of the island of Malta, in the Mediterranean Sea. It is part of an archipelago of 5 islands, of which only 3 are inhabited.

Places of interest include St John's Co-Cathedral, Palace of the Grand Masters, Upper Barracca Gardens, the open air Merchant Street Flea Market and Gozo, Malta's sister island which is a ferry ride away.

There is also an interactive experience about the Great Siege of Malta and the Knights of St John, located in the centre of the city.

Republic Street is one of the main shopping streets, popular buys are ceramics, glassware, embroidery and lace.

Mdina is the ancient walled and moated former capital city, rich in history and architecture.

There are no beaches in Valletta, however the beaches of St Julian's, Mellieha and Sliema are a bus ride away.

Traditional Maltese fayre includes 'lampuki' (fish pie), rabbit stew and 'kapunata' (similar to ratatouille).
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock at Pinto Wharf, which is around a ½ mile away from the main shopping area. The waterfront is filled with shops, restaurants and bars.

Taxis and horse drawn carriages can take visitors to the city centre but it is walkable for the reasonably fit traveller.

Public buses are available in the city centre.
