About Tromso
Tromso is a city in Troms county, in northern Norway, Scandinavia.

Polaria is a national information and adventure centre focusing on the Polar Regions.

Enjoy a tour and a pint at the visitor centre of the northernmost brewery in the world, Mack Brewery.

Take a guided walk and learn about Tromsø’s architecture as it evolved through the various periods.

The Art Museum of Northern Norway displays art about and from Northern Norway, along with national art history and temporary exhibitions.

The Arctic Cathedral is the iconic symbol of Tromsø, it was built in 1965 in the style resembling ice and snow and is located around 2km from the centre of town.

Take the cable car up to Mount Storsteinen for a fantastic view of Tromsø Island and surrounding waterways and mountains (around 10 minutes away by bus).

Tromsø University Museum is 3km from the city centre and presents in-depth knowledge about the people of the Arctic and their history as well as the Northern Lights.

Tromsø Wilderness Centre is a 30 minute drive from Tromsø. Enjoy a walk with one of 300 friendly Alaskan huskies in the beautiful countryside.

Tromsø Military Museum, a 10 minute drive away has displays of military history at a former German naval cannon battery.

Take a fishing trips to Hella and Rystraumen where you are almost sure to catch fish.

Tromsø Museum is the oldest and largest scientific institution in Northern Norway, established in 1872 and became a part of the University in Tromsø in 1976.

The Botanical Gardens are a 5 minute walk from Breivika. The world’s northernmost garden features Arctic, Antarctic and alpine plants from all continents, along with perennials and herbs of traditional use.

There are many activities and tours on offer including dog and reindeer sledging, sea kayaking, ice fishing, glacier trips and searching the Northern Lights (some are seasonal).

Storgata, Tromsø’s main pedestrian street, is a treasure trove of shops selling local and international products. Souvenirs include a painting or print from one of the city’s many galleries, an item made in one of the glass blowing or candle making studios, clothing or jewellery.

There are many dishes to try here including cod, coalfish, halibut and haddock as well as reindeer, goat and elk.
Cruise Terminal
Smaller cruise ships currently dock at the Prostneset dock. Larger ships use the Breivika dock.

Taxis/car hire and public buses are all available nearby. Shuttle buses may be arranged by individual cruise lines.

The centre of town is less than 0.5km away from Prostneset dock and around 4km from Breivika dock.

A new cruise terminal is being built, expected to open some time in 2014.
