About Trieste
Trieste is a city and seaport located at the head of the Gulf of Trieste, in north-eastern Italy, southern Europe.

Trieste is a lovely mix of ancient Roman and 18th century buildings, churches and villages.

Piazza Unità d'Italia is the main town square in Trieste, with pleasant cafes and a number of interesting architectural buildings.

The Museo Revoltella features a mixture of modern and traditional artwork exhibited over 6 floors.

Civico Museo della Risiera di San Sabba is a former Nazi detention, execution and cremation centre. Now a museum, it provides an exhibition of regional history of the 20th century.

The Civico Museo Sartorio is set in an urban villa, and exhibits ceramics, porcelain, pictures and typical equipment of Trieste's villas at the end of the 19th century

Citta Vecchia is the Old Quarter of town, here you will find many interesting buildings, museums, shops, cafes and restaurants. For a more in-depth history, take a walk with a local guide.

Trieste Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Justus, and is the main church of Trieste.

Castello de San Giusto is home to a museum exhibiting weapons, armour, tapestries and furniture.

Miramar Castle is located on the waterfront 8km from Trieste and was built between 1856 and 1860.

Take the hop on/hop off sightseeing bus and visit the many sights of the city.

Head to Val Rosandra for hiking or cycling. Tourist attractions in the valley include a 40m high waterfall near the village of Botazzo and the Church of Santa Maria, perched high in the hills of the valley.

Faro della Vittoria is a pretty lighthouse with amazing views of the Gulf of Trieste. It is located on the hill of Gretta (Poggio di Gretta), off the Strada del Friuli. At a height of 68m, it is one of the tallest lighthouses in the world.

Trieste has a good selection of shops and boutiques as well as food markets where you can try the local cuisine.

Sistiana Bay is considered the best beach resort in Trieste, with plenty of activities and safe, shallow waters.
Traditional dishes from the region include 'frico' (cheese fritter) with 'musèt and brovade' (sausage with soured turnip), 'cjarsòns' (filled ravioli) and 'gnocchi di susine' (plum gnocchi). Seafood dishes such as 'crostacei e conchiglie' (a crustacean and shellfish dish), scampi a la busara and sardoni are also popular options.
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock at the Stazione Marittima passenger terminal, which features a departures lounge, coffee shop, toilets, convenience store and public telephones.

This terminal is also the location for ferries to Slovenia and Croatia.

The centre of Trieste is only a few minutes walk away.
