About Stavanger
Stavanger is a city in Norway, Scandinavia, it is located on a peninsula on the southwest coast of the country.

The landscape in the region varies between fjords and steep mountains.

The Stavanger region has many beautiful fjords, including one of the most famous - the Lysefjord. The Lysefjord is also home to two other major attractions - Kjerag and Preikestolen (The Pulpit Rock).

MĂ„nafossen Waterfall has a free fall of 92 metres and is the biggest waterfall in Rogaland county.

A good photo opportunity is the Three Swords monument (Sverd i Fjell), which stand on the edge of Hafrsfjord, 6km from the centre of Stavanger, set against the backdrop of the fjords. There is a small beach, grassy area and safe bathing for children.

The region is also home to many long, stunning sandy beaches.

Stavanger has both shopping centres and charming cobbled pedestrian streets with speciality shops such as Stavanger GlassblÄseri (glass blowing studio) and Sjokoladepiken (handmade chocolate).

Souvenirs include hand knitted jumpers, glass, ceramics and replica Viking age jewellery found in the area.

'Baccalao' (dried salted cod in tomato sauce), 'kjottkakaker' (meat cakes) and Norwegian salmon are all popular dishes of the country.
