About Sochi
Sochi is a city in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, situated on the Black Sea coast near the border between Georgia/Abkhazia and Russia.
The stalls and kiosks near to the Central market sell souvenir items including Georgian dry red wine, local crafts and artwork and matryoshka dolls. (Note: Most of the stores in Sochi accept only Russian rubles, to change money you need your passport. Credit cards may be used in big hotels and restaurants).
Take a walking tour of the Agura Falls (10 miles from city centre).
The Dendraiy Park contains thousands of exotic tree species from all over the world.
Climb the highest mountain in the region, the Akhun Mountain. It's observation tower is visible from the city centre. From the top there are magnificent views of the Black Sea and its coast.
Another popular attraction are the Matsesta Sulfur Springs, said to have curative powers.
Marshrutka (small minibuses) are the main public transport in Sochi, however most of the writing is in Cyrillic so it's best to ask locals for help if you want to use them.
Traditional dishes include 'pirozhki' (bun/pie stuffed with various fillings), a vast array of soups, 'coulibiac' (loaf with fish, rice, eggs, mushrooms, and dill) and 'pelmeni' (filled dumplings).
