Overview Of The Port Of Singapore

About Singapore
Singapore is a southeast Asian island city-state off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It is made up of 63 islands and is separated from Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to its north.

Singapore is a well established shopping Mecca. Orchard Road offers a vast array of shops and popular shopping centres include the Wisma Atria and Ngee Ann City.

The Boat Quay is a mixed development of old wharf houses and modern skyscrapers.

Singapore's colonial district is full of charm. Attractions here include the Old Parliament House, the Fullerton Hotel and the Anglican St Andrew's Church. The huge Raffles City mall is also here for retail therapy.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a 120+ acre playground for nature lovers.

The 70 acre Singapore Zoo has more than 3,200 mammals, birds, reptiles and fish.

Take a Singapore River cruise where you can see the Merlion, a 70 ton statue more than 28ft high with a lion's head and a fish's body, resting on a crest of waves.

Singapore's only beaches are located on Sentosa Island (home to family orientated attractions such as Underwater World, Dolphin Lagoon, Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom) however most locals don't swim there. The popular beaches are Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong.

If you are looking for history, Fort Siloso is the place to go.

For a tour of the city, use the 'hop on/hop off' sightseeing bus.

There are lots of dining options here. Popular local seafood dishes include Sambal stingray, black pepper crab, chilli crab and oyster omelette.
Cruise Terminal
Cruise shops dock at two terminals, depending on size.

Singapore Cruise Centre is part of the Harbourfront Centre with a shopping mall and is around a 15 minute taxi drive from downtown. The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is a fast and efficient way to travel around Singapore and it stops at the Singapore Cruise Centre.

The nearest MRT station from Marina Bay Cruise Centre is Marina Bay but with Marina South Pier opening in 2014, there will soon be 2 choices.

There are two kinds of taxis available - Comfort City Cabs (cheaper and older) and SMRT taxis (Mercedes Benz with higher fares).
