Overview Of The Port Of Silhouette Island

About Silhouette Island
Silhouette Island is located in the Seychelles, in the Indian Ocean.

Very few people live on the island, as it is very difficult to access, except by boat or helicopter. There are no roads or paths here so it’s perfect for exploring on foot via the many trails around the island.

Fishing and boat trips can be arranged and as the island is completely surrounded by a coral reef, it makes exploring the crystal blue waters especially popular with divers and snorkelers.

Mount Dauban is the highest summit at 740m high. It is surrounded by rainforest full of rare specimens such as pitcher plant, hardwoods and orchids.

The historic village of La Passe was established in the first half of the 19th century by the Dauban family. The original Dauban plantation house has been restored, and now houses a restaurant serving Creole specialities.

Creole style food can be found on menus. Fresh fish and seafood such as barracuda, kingfish, squid, octopus, grouper and red snapper feature heavily. Coconut and breadfruit is often used in dishes. Try Octopus 'zourit', a creamy curry or for the more adventurous eater, 'rousettes' (fruit bats) or 'shark chutney' (shark meat cooked with bilimbi, a small cucumber and lime juice).
