Overview Of The Port Of Salalah

About Salalah
Salalah is the capital of the southern Omani province of Dhofar. Salalah is the second largest city in the Sultanate of Oman, an Arab state in southwest Asia on the south-east coast of the Arabian Peninsula.

Haffa (or Al Husn) Souk, is 10 minutes drive from the port. The spice souk is of particular interest to visitors.

The Al Husin Sultan's Palace, just around the corner from the souk, is not open to visitors, but is worth a look.

The Corniche has beautiful golden sands and a selection of cafes nearby.

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque lies between A'Suq Street and 23rd July Street. Visitor access is limited, women are allowed only into one area, and their heads, arms and legs must be covered.

A'Salam Street is Salalah's 20km long main thoroughfare with a huge range of shops selling perfume, books, jewellery and the latest computers and mobile phones.

Job's Tomb is set high in the Qara Mountains, with spectacular views over the Jubriah Plain.

The ancient town of Samhuram lies on the picturesque Khor Rohri creek and dates back to the 4th century B.C. It was at the heart of Salalah's frankincense region, you'll also find the ruins of the Queen of the Sheba's Palace here.

Typical Omani dishes include ‘mathpe’ (barbecued meat) and ‘gabole’ (cooked rice, enriched with meat juices). For the more adventurous, camel meat and camel's milk is also available. You'll also find many restaurants serving Indian and Chinese dishes. Alcohol is served at some high end hotels and clubs.
